July is National Park and Recreation Month, and Fargo Parks is inviting the community to celebrate all month long through free events, outdoor activities and opportunities to explore parks across the city.

At its heart, Park and Recreation Month is about recognizing the role parks play in everyday life. This year’s National Recreation and Park Association theme, “The Power of Parks & Recreation,” highlights the ways parks create connection, play, community, nature, belonging and well-being. Here in Fargo, that power shows up in both the big community moments and the small everyday ones: when kids discover a new favorite playground, neighbors gather for a movie in the park, families cool off at the pool, friends meet on the trails, artists create outdoors and community members find spaces where they feel welcome.

Throughout July, Fargo Parks will celebrate those moments across the city. Some events are rooted in play, like chalk art at Urban Plains Park, ArtVentures, All Access Splash Days and Fargo Parks Pop-Ins, where kids and families can move, create and explore together. Others are about community, from Movies in the Park and Music in the Park to neighborhood pop-ins and the Edgewood Centennial Celebration Party, bringing people together in the familiar places that help make Fargo feel like home.

The month also creates space to reconnect with nature through kite flying at Mickelson Park, Nature Bingo at Orchard Glen and simple afternoons spent walking trails, visiting parks or enjoying time outside. Just as importantly, Park and Recreation Month is a reminder that well-being can look like movement, rest, connection or a few quiet hours in a hammock. Whether residents join us for National Hammock Day, an adult swim night, an all-access splash day or a neighborhood event, the goal is the same: to celebrate the parks, programs and people that create places of belonging across Fargo.
