The Fargo Park District offers nine cross country ski and snowshoe trails throughout the city, which are groomed as needed depending on the trail and weather conditions. Come out and enjoy some great winter exercise as these trails are available to the public free of charge.

Ski Trail Maps:

  • Red lines are nature park trails, which are a single set of classic tracks combined with at least four feet of flat-packed surface for snowshoeing, etc.
  • Yellow lines are flat-packed trails for snowshoeing, skating, etc.

Cross country ski rentals are available at the Edgewood Chalet for the Edgewood Golf Course ski trails.

Cross Country Ski Trail Information

12/15/25

Trails are seeing heavy use which we like to see! Grooming conditions have been difficult with the lack of new snow. The next few days are forecast to be above freezing and will most likely degrade trail conditions, especially if we receive any direct sunlight. Ground temps are cold from our recent deep freeze but expect that there may be thin/bare track especially in the open. After the warmup, we will likely need 2-6 inches of new snow to get back to good trail conditions across the district. See you out on the trails and if you happen to talk to Santa, let him know you want more snow!

Edgewood - The skate deck has been regroomed and is in fair condition. Watch out around 14 tee box for a very thin base and exposed aggregate on top of the hill. The classic track was not touched as there is not enough base to renovate the trail.

Lindenwood/RRT - Skate deck has been groomed and is in good condition. Classic track has been renovated throughout and is also in good condition. (Probably the best conditions in Fargo at the moment)

All Other Trails - New snow needed to repack and set track.

12/12/25

With the wind and blowing snow this morning, expect some areas of all trails to be blown over but otherwise in good condition. Bases have firmed up with the colder temps and tracks are skiing fast and providing some great early season conditions!

Orchard Glen - All trails have been groomed and open in good condition. Watch for thin spots along the track in open areas. Be advised that forestry operations will be conducted near the upper/lower trail connection towards the beginning of the trail within the next week.

12/11/25

Lions/Iwen - Entire trail groomed and open in good condition. Watch for thin spots in open areas and take caution along the University Ave flood wall as more snow is needed to properly track that section.

Forest River - All trails groomed and open in fair to good condition. Heavy foot traffic and forestry operations had compacted the base along the old road and a portion of the classic route making track setting in those locations difficult. All other areas tracked well with some thin sections on the western half of the trail.

Heritage Hills - Gravel trail was groomed for hiking and snowshoeing.

12/10/25

Edgewood - All trails groomed and open in good condition. The classic route has been double tracked and set up nice with a few bare spots on the tops of hills. The Skate deck has been groomed. Some areas of the trail will have filled in after grooming due to additional wind and snow this morning.

Lindenwood/RRT - All trails groomed and open in good condition. Classic has been double tracked and the skate deck set up nicely.

Prairiewood - All trails groomed and open in good condition. Tracks were set on both inside and outside loops with some bare spots on the top of hills and windswept areas. Be advised that forestry operations are currently underway at the course and to be on the lookout for machinery in the general vicinity.

"Share the Trail"

  1. For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, please stay in your lanes.
  2. Be an ambassador for your activity.
  3. Dogs must stay off of classic trails and leash and dog waste laws still apply.
  4. Slow skiers yield to skiers going at a faster pace.
  5. Avoid skate skiing on or over the groomed classic and foot traffic lanes.
  6. Be respectful of wildlife and private property.
  7. Keep the trails litter-free. Pack in, Pack out.
  8. The trail is multi-directional. Be courteous to other trail users and oncoming traffic.
  9. Have fun!

Heritage Hills Park trails will now be groomed for hiking, and ski tracks will not be set at this location for the upcoming season. This change allows visitors to freely explore the park on foot while still enjoying a groomed path, without the need to avoid ski tracks.

Due to winter tree pruning activities at Island Park that will create safety concerns and prevent us from maintaining a groomed trail throughout the season, the Island Park Ski Trail will be closed for the 2025–2026 winter.
