The Fargo Park District Board of Commissioners held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 in the Alex Stern Community Room at the Fargo Parks Sports Center. The board approved the agenda and consent agenda as presented.

Director’s Report

Executive Director Susan Faus shared updates on the start of the summer season, including the successful opening of Island Park Pool on June 1. More than 7,000 visitors attended during the first week of operation, including nearly 4,200 visitors over opening weekend alone. Additional updates included the opening of all remaining outdoor pools, the upcoming FM Gators Swim Meet at Island Park Pool, the return of Adults-Only Swim Nights, and the Fargo Parks Sports Center’s second anniversary celebration, which welcomed nearly 500 visitors for a day of free activities and community programming. The board also received updates on upcoming Roger Maris Week activities and strong early-season participation across Fargo Golf facilities.

Garden of Healing Phase II

The board approved a partnership agreement supporting Phase II of the Garden of Healing at Urban Plains. Planned improvements will expand the existing healing garden and include additional gathering spaces, accessible features, educational elements, walking paths, and expanded opportunities for reflection and healing.

Park Board Onboarding

The board approved updates to the Park Board Commissioner Onboarding Process, which outlines how newly elected commissioners are introduced to the Fargo Park District following an election. Revisions clarified onboarding responsibilities during election years, added flexibility to the post-election timeline, and expanded information provided to incoming commissioners regarding District facilities, partnerships, operations, and governance expectations.

Governance Committee Updates

The board received a Governance Committee update that included review of governance policies related to Executive Director accountability and personnel administration. No changes were recommended or made to those policies.

Planning Committee Updates

The board received a Planning Committee update that included discussion related to the 12th Avenue bridge project, Rose Creek driving range improvements, bridge maintenance agreements, the Urban Archery Deer Hunt program, a proposed cell tower agreement, and preliminary planning for the 2027 budget. The committee also discussed an inquiry regarding the potential purchase of Cornerstone Arena and affirmed that the Fargo Park District is not interested in pursuing a sale at this time.
