Approval of lease agreement with Sanford at Fargo Parks Sports Center 

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a lease agreement with Sanford at the Fargo Parks Sports Center. The lease covers spaces Sanford wishes to occupy or utilize. These spaces include the Sanford Sports area, use of one quadrant of turf and use of two hardwood courts.  

Key points to the draft lease agreement include:  

  • 20-year lease with a mechanism for two additional 5-year option terms.  

  • Annual rent for the Sanford area as a pro rata portion of a variety of expenses based on a formula of square footage and shared common spaces. 

  • Agreement for Sanford to utilize additional spaces within the facility 

  • Turf (one quadrant): $150,000 rent annually 

  • Hardwood courts (two): $100,000 per court in rent annually 

  • The Fargo Park District maintains its rights as owner to utilize the turf quadrant and courts for its purposes and rentals as needed. 

Sanford Sports Performance and Sanford Sports Academy will operate out of their space in the Fargo Parks Sports Center starting May 21.  

Approval of proposed field improvements at Bennett Park  

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve field improvements at Bennett Park as proposed by Fargo Area Sports.  

Fargo Park District staff will improve the infield by completing needed dirt work, laying sod and improving the homeplate area on the north field, for a total cost of $3,500.00. Fargo Area Sports and Shanley Athletics will be responsible for additional improvements including enclosed fencing with foul poles, bleachers, and scoreboards.  

Bid awarded to Civil Specialties, Inc. for Orchard Glen and Forest River Trail improvements 

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to award a bid to Civil Specialties, Inc. in the amount of $136,210 for trail improvements at Orchard Glen and Forest River Parks.  

The trail improvements are estimated to cost $207,938 total and have been budgeted for in 2024 and will be supported by a Recreational Trails Program grant.
