This Giving Hearts Day, the Fargo Park District Foundation is asking for your support of the Fargo Sports Complex project, an extraordinary building project that will address a critically unmet need for indoor recreation facilities available to the Fargo community.

Funds raised through this day of online giving will support the construction of a multipurpose indoor recreation facility critical to community wellness and the growth of recreational opportunities. Phase one of the Fargo Sports Complex plans to accommodate many indoor sports, activities, tournaments and special events. Phase one of this project includes an indoor soccer turf field, 4 – 6 full sized basketball courts, an indoor ice sheet, multipurpose space and an indoor walking track.

As Giving Hearts Day approaches, the Fargo Park District Foundation is taking the time to highlight eight Fargo sports organizations and the community benefits the Fargo Sports Complex will provide for their participants. By partnering with local sports organizations like Tri-City United Soccer Club, this project also provides for greater opportunities for access to recreational programs for members of our community.

“It’s just going to be a game changer,” said Jason Hagelstrom, soccer parent. “I think the complex is going to be a huge benefit to the whole community. Anytime you can get extra space, but I mean that’s a lot of extra space and to be able to have everything in one place is huge. Anytime you can get that it’s just going to be a benefit to everybody. It’s going to be great. It’s going to be exciting.”

The Fargo Sports Complex will offer a variety of positive impacts to the Tri-City United Soccer Club. Due to their current limited facility space, the club is not able to meet the demands for soccer in our community. The Fargo Sports Complex is needed to help Tri-City United Soccer Club expand its winter programming and as a location to host larger tournaments and events. This new space will also provide the opportunity for a better practice environment as well as more appropriate space for training and development of their players.

In 2019, the total direct visitor spending in the Fargo-Moorhead community was $280,000 from Tri-City United Soccer Club tournaments. This number will only increase with the help of the Fargo Sports Complex being able to offer additional soccer turf fields. There are over 600 competitive and 2,000 recreational soccer players in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

“It’s been interesting to watch soccer grow just in the past four years,” said James Sipe, Tri-City Soccer Club Board Member and soccer parent. “So, what’s unique besides the weather here in Fargo is the limitation the weather creates for kids and outdoor activities so for other parts of the country they take that for granted. I think if somebody were to come here from somewhere else and see that kind of facility, they’d be overly impressed with kind of just the quality based on the other facilities I’ve seen in other cities.”

Help support the Fargo Sports Complex by donating to the Fargo Park District Foundation on Giving Hearts Day! Your support will benefit the community and partner organizations like Tri-City United Soccer Club. Donations can be made from now until February 11 by mail (701 Main Ave) or through our Giving Hearts Day page.
