The Fargo Park District and FM Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (F-M CVB) is seeking visual artists for a public art piece to be located at the Fargo Park District main offices in downtown Fargo. Artists are being asked to create and submit a design which will be transferred to a vehicle wrap placed on a railway carriage car currently located at 701 Main Avenue, Fargo.

“The Fargo Park District, together with the F-M CVB, is excited to offer this unique opportunity to introduce a public art piece in highly visible location in Fargo,” shared Carolyn Boutain, Director of Cultural Activities at the Fargo Park District. “Our hope is to display a piece that showcases the spirit of our community, the Fargo people and the Downtown area in a setting that is truly ‘North of Normal.’”

Selected artists will receive a stipend for the creation of the artwork. An additional benefit of participating in this program is the visibility of the artist’s work in Downtown Fargo at the intersection of Broadway and Main Ave where thousands of people travel daily. The artwork will be exhibited for at least three years. After that time, the Fargo Park District and the F-M CVB will evaluate the program and make a determination as to the next plan for use of the trains.

All submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee who will choose one design to be transferred to the train car. The art work doesn’t need to cover the entire face of the train car. It can be a portrait or landscape orientation. The art work can integrate the train windows into the piece or it can cover them completely. Designs will share train car space with the sponsor logos.

To be considered, applications must be received before 5:00 pm on July 28, 2017.  All materials must be submitted electronically only; material submitted in any other fashion will not be accepted or considered.
