The Fargo Park District is accepting applications for the following 2010 summer seasonal positions. Applications may be picked up at the Park District office, 701 Main Avenue, between 7:30a.m. and 4:30p.m., Monday thru Friday, or click here to apply on-line.


RECREATION POSITIONS:

PLAYGROUND SUPERVISORS:
Responsibilities include supervising the playground center and providing a variety of activities such as:  recreational games, arts and crafts, and story time.  21 hours per week.  Monday-Thursday 9:30-12:00 noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m.  Dates are June 7-July 29.  Hourly wage $7.50 to $8.50/hour.

ADAPTIVE PLAYGROUND SUPERVISORS:
Responsibilities include working with mentally/physically disabled children ages 4-20.  Other responsibilities include providing recreational activities such as:  swimming, trips, arts and crafts, etc.  Monday through Thursday, June 7-July 28.  Hourly wage $7.50 to $8.50/hour. 
Preschool Program: Ages 4-9, hours 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.; 12-20 hours per week.             
Camp-A-Day Program: Ages 10-20, hours 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.; 20-25 hours per week.

SWIMMING POOLS:
Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguards:  Individuals will be hired for our four outdoor swimming pools.  Individuals must possess current American Red Cross certification with previous experience preferred.  Lessons are Monday through Friday mornings from June to August.  General admission pool hours are afternoons and evenings both weekdays and weekends.  Individuals will be required to supervise children and adults and enforce safety procedures, rules and policies.  Water Safety Instructors-$9.00 to $10.00/hour; Lifeguards-$8.50 to $9.75/hour; Asst. Pool Manager-$11.00 to $12.00/hour.

Pool Cashiers:  Individuals must have good public relation skills.  Responsibilities include handling of money and season passes,  keeping accurate daily records, and general cleaning.  Pay scale $7.50 to $8.50/hour.  Individuals 14 or 15 years of age must obtain a work permit through their School when hired to work in this position.

Locker Room Attendants:  Responsibilities include supervising the locker rooms, handling swimmer’s bags and keeping the locker rooms in order.  Pay scale $7.50 to $8.50/hour.  Individuals 14 or 15 years of age must obtain a work permit through their School when hired to work in this position.

YOUTH BASEBALL/SOFTBALL DIAMOND SUPERVISORS:
Responsibilities include supervising and umpiring youth baseball and softball games.  Individuals must possess good public relation skills with children and parents.  Complete knowledge of softball/baseball rules of the game is mandatory.  Hours are Monday through Friday mornings, afternoons and evenings.  Pay scale $8.00 to $9.00/hour.

YOUTH TRACK COACHES:
Individuals needed to coach youth track program.  Individuals must possess good public relation skills with children and parents.  Hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00pm; starting June 1 through June 25.  Pay scale $8.25 to $9.25/hour.

YOUTH TRACK SUPERVISOR:
An individual is needed to supervise the youth track program.  Responsibilities include; working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-9:00pm, scheduling, setting up practices and meets, and overall supervision of the program; starting June 1 through July 1.  The individual must possess good public relation skills and possess good knowledge of track.  Pay scale $9.50 to $10.50/hour.

YOUTH GOLF INSTRUCTORS:
Individuals must have knowledge and ability to play the game of golf.  Must also be able to teach youth the game of golf.  Teaching and public relations skills are very important.  Monday through Thursday, and occasionally Fridays, June 7 to mid-August.  Pay scale $8.25 to $9.25/hour. 

YOUTH GOLF SUPERVISOR:
Individual must have good knowledge and ability to play the game of golf.  Must be able to teach the game of golf.  Must possess good public relation and organizational skills.  Dates and times are 7:30am to 12:00 noon, Monday through Thursday, early June 7 through mid August.  Pay scale $9.50 to $10.50/hour.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL CAMP INSTRUCTORS:
Individuals are needed to instruct girls in grades 3-6.  Individuals must possess good public relations skills and a basic knowledge of
Volleyball.  Camp dates are June 1-4.  Pay scale $8.25 to $9.25/hour.

ADULT COED SOFTBALL UMPIRES: 
Umpires are needed for adult coed softball leagues.  Individuals must possess good public relation skills and complete knowledge of softball rules is mandatory.  Umpires must be ASA sanctioned.  Games are Monday through Thursday evenings starting May 10.  Pay scale $25.00/game.

SPORTS SAMPLER
Individuals are needed to work with youth ages 4 to 6 years old.  Responsibilities include supervising recreational activities such as soccer, kickball, t-ball and other fun and recreational games for children of this age.  Individuals must possess good public relation skills with youth and adults.  Dates are early April through mid May Mondays through Thursdays (4:30pm-8:00pm).  Pay scale $8.00
to $9.00/hour.

OUTDOOR RECREATION INSTRUCTORS:
Individuals must be experienced with hunting and fishing skills.  
The individual must possess good teaching and public relations skills to work with both youth and adults.  Hours vary for these positions.  Pay scale $8.00 to $9.50/hour.

SUMMER TENNIS INSTRUCTORS:
Courts Plus Fitness Center is accepting applications for Tennis Instructors for the summer tennis program June 1 – July 30, 2010. MAINTENANCE POSITIONS:

PARK MAINTENANCE MOWING CREW AND TRIM CREW:
Individuals must be 16 years old and have a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include operation of large mowers, hand push mowers and string trimmers in the parks.  Pay scale; $7.25 to $8.00/hour for supervisors; $8.50/hour for equipment operators.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE:
Individuals must be 16 years old and have a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include providing grounds maintenance labor at the public golf courses, operation of tractors, self-propelled mowers, irrigation equipment, trucks and a variety of hand tools.  Weekend work required on a rotating basis.  Pay scale starting at $7.25/hour.

SOCCER FIELD MAINTENANCE:
Individual will be hired to concentrate on soccer field maintenance.  Responsibilities will include mowing, trimming and fertilizing soccer fields.  Individual must be 16 years of age and have a valid drivers license. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Pay scale starting at $7.25/hour.

PARK FORESTRY WORKERS:
Individuals must be 18 years old and have a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include assisting in the general care of trees.  Pay scale starting at $7.50/hour.   Pay scale $8.00/hour for supervisors and $8.50/hour for equipment operators.  Positions run May through September 30th.

LINDENWOOD PARK AND OAK GROVE PARK ATTENDANT:
Individual will be hired to maintain at either Lindenwood Park or Oak Grove Park.  Applicant must be at least 16 years of age with a valid driver’s license.  Evening (until 10:00 p.m.) and weekend hours are required.  Pay scale starting $7.25/hour.

BALLFIELD MAINTENANCE:
Individuals must be at least 16 years old with a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include operation of trucks, tractors, hand tools and other equipment while maintaining and upkeep of softball, baseball and soccer fields.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends also, May through September, weather permitting.  Pay scale starting at $7.25/hour and $9.00/hour for supervisors.

LANDSCAPE MANTENANCE WORKER:
Individuals must have a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include the planting and daily maintenance of the flowerbeds throughout the park system.  The position runs approximately May 1st through September 1st.  Pay scale starting $7.25/hour and $8.00/hour for supervisors.

CARPENTER’S ASSISTANT: 
Individual must have one to three years of carpentry experience and must be familiar with all aspects of the carpentry profession.  Pay range is $9.00 to $11.00/hour, dependent upon experience.  This position is seasonal, May through September.  A valid driver’s license is required.

MISCELLANEOUS POSITIONS:

SPECIAL EVENTS STAFF: 
Individuals will be hired to set up, facilitate and clean up special events, festivals and programs in the parks.  Tasks may include, but are not limited to, maintenance of parks during events, technical assistance, and assist with children’s activities like arts and crafts. 
Qualified applicants should possess the ability to communicate
effectively with the general public, lift up to 25 pounds and enjoy
working outdoors.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends.  Hours will vary May 11 through September 1.  Pay scale $7.25 to $8.25/hour.

ART CLASS INSTRUCTORS:  POSITIONS ARE FILLED
Art classes are held throughout the year.  Duties include researching art activities, preparing syllabus, leading class instruction and program facilitation.  Visual art experience and teaching experience required.  Classes are for groups ranging in age from 3 to 16 yrs old.  Summer classes are held days and weekends.  Individual must have a flexible schedule.  Pay scale is $12.00-$20.00/hour.

PLAYER ASSISTANTS (GOLF RANGERS):
Individuals must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.  Reports to Golf Pro, coordinates starting times, assist players with pace of play and monitor cart traffic.  Varying hours weekdays and weekends.  Pay scale $7.25 to $8.25/hour.

CONCESSION STAFF AT POOLS, BALLFIELDS, SKATE PARK: Individuals must have good public relation skills.  Responsibilities include general cleaning, handling food and money and keeping accurate daily records.  Pay scale $7.25 to $8.25/hour.  Individuals 14 or 15 years of age must obtain a work permit through their School when hired to work in this position.

ROSE CREEK GRILL STAFF:
Individuals, 21 years or older, must have good public relation skills and food service experience.  Must be able to work weekends and evenings.  Pay scale $8.00/hour plus tips.

BUILDING ATTENDANT (FOR ROBERT D. JOHNSON AND RHEAULT FARM):
Responsibilities include opening building and rooms, overseeing rentals, locking building, light office work and custodial duties.  Part time position weekdays, evenings and weekends, hours will vary.  Pay scale $7.50 to $8.50/hour.

PARK SECURITYPOSITION IS FILLED
Individuals must have a valid drivers license.  Responsibilities include opening and closing parks and clean up of facilities.  Must be able to work nights and weekends.  Pay scale starts $10.00/hour.

LINDENWOOD CAMPGROUND ATTENDANT:
Responsibilities include taking reservations, keeping records and monitoring the campers.  Strong leadership skills, good public relation skills, basic computer skills and good customer service skills required, in person and on the phone.  Individual must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.  The position runs approximately May 1st through September 30th.  Pay scale $7.50 to $8.50/hour.

Volunteer Opportunities

Adopt-A-Park
The Fargo Park District invites you to help keep your parks clean by joining our Adopt-A-Park Program. This is a great way for an individual, service club or group to help keep our parks clean along with having your own sense of pride in our community. The Fargo Park District is looking for volunteers to help with special events and recreational programs throughout the year. Many ages and skill levels are welcome in the volunteer program.

The Department of Cultural Activities relies on volunteer assistance to make events happen. Volunteers can assist in setting up and planning events. Volunteers can be greeters, ticket takers, game operators, and parking attendants. Some events encourage families and large groups to participate together.

The Recreation Department also relies on volunteers for coaching and other jobs for throughout the year. Volunteers help run programs for both youth and adults to participate in for a healthy lifestyle.
